Dwelling in Heritage
Selected competitively based on our “modern lodge” concept for a community themed to celebrate a local woman homesteader and the region’s first postmaster, we assisted the owner to reposition an apartment community including unit renovations, site improvements, and a comprehensive remodel of the clubhouse/leasing center. The existing community building lacked presence and amenity space, and the owner’s goal to provide visual interest from the street was responded to with a new double-height entry, sky-lit central fireplace, and “garden hall” - the latter a daylit coffee bar and gathering space reusing the existing racquetball court in the rear of the building. The architectural character was enhanced with exposed trusses and agrarian/greenhouse materials and details throughout, for a comfortably durable public space for tenant and rental use.
